Structure and function
The foot of the human body plays an important role in weight distribution and locomotion.
It is composed of the tarsal bones, the metatarsals and phalanges. In relation to the ankle joint, it exhibits the following movements:
Dorsiflexion – Upward movement towards the leg
Plantar Flexion – Downward movement away from the leg
Inversion – Angular movement towards mid line of the body
Eversion – Angular movement away from mid line of the body
Abduction – Lateral movement away form mid line of hte body
Adduction – Lateral movement towards mid line of the body.
